American League, Martinez hits four doubles and Red Sox win

Last night American League result, written by Olivier:

Orioles @ Yankees 1 - 3
An errant Miguel Tejada throw with the score tied in the seventh inning brought home two Yankees runs and made a winner of Javier Vazquez, who outdueled Brian Matusz to hand the O's their sixth straight loss. Matusz tossed 6 and 2/3 of one-earnud run ball allowing 6 hits. Vazquez
earned his 4th win of the season pitching 7 innings and allowing only one run on Corey Patterson solo shot.

Indians @ Tigers 3 - 2
Tigers homestand so far has been a bad one. They are 1-4 in the span. Jake Westbrook outdueled Jeremy Bonderman pitching 7 and 2/3 strong innings allowing just 1 run on 5 hits. Russell Branyan and Shin-Soo Choo homered to power the Tribe's offense. Detroit threatened in the bottom of the ninth but came short scoring just one and leaving the tying run at third.

Rays @ Blue Jays 7 - 6
Huge comeback for the Rays who were trailing 5-0 after 6 innings. They scored 3 runs in the top of the 7th and 4 in the top of the ninth. Blue Jays bullpen wasn't able to hold the lead and closer Kevin Gregg blew his 3rd save. A big wasted opportunity for Toronto that now finds himself 4.5 games back in the AL East. Rays manager Joe Maddon and Kevin Gregg were both ejected in the ninth inning.

Athletics @ Red Sox 4 - 9
John Lackey picked up the win despite not having his best stuff. He pitched 6 innings allowing 4 runs on 12 hits. Victor Martinez went 5-for-5 with 2 RBI and Adrian Beltre hit a three-run homer. A's starter Gonzalez threw a lot of pitches through 5 innings allowing 3 earned runs. Oakland bullpen allowed 6 earned runs on 7 hits and 5 walks. First baseman Barton belted his 4th home run of the season.

Angels @ Royals 3 - 6
David DeJesus keyed a big four-run fifth inning with a two-run triple and Brian Bannister earned his fourth straight victory as the Royals snapped a three-game skid and evened the series at Kauffman Stadium. Pineiro was cruising through the first 4, but was hit hard in the bottom part of the 5th. He went the distance pitching a complete game.

Rangers @ Whitesox 9 - 6
It looked like the Whitesox were controlling the game leading 4-0 and having Buehrle on the mound, but a 5 run 6th gave Texas the lead as they held on to defeat the Southsiders. Harden laboured for 5 innings allowing 4 runs on 7 hits and 3 walks. Ian Kinsler's double drove in two, capping the big inning for Texas.

Twins @ Mariners 1 - 7
Left-hander Jason Vargas allowed one run over seven innings to improve to 4-2, and Jose Lopez drove in three, including a two-run homer in a four-run fourth. Twins right-hander Blackburn lasted only 3 and 2/3 giving up 10 hits and 5 earned runs. Justin Morneau tied the game at 1 in the third with his 12th home run of the season.
