National League, Rolen homered twice to put reds in first

Last night National League result, written by Olivier:
Cubs @ Pirates 2 - 3
Pittsburgh native Neil Walker hit his first career home run in a big spot, giving the Pirates the lead in the eighth inning and handing the Cubs' Ted Lilly the loss on a night he allowed just six hits in 7 2/3 innings. Karstens
pitched well, 6 innings allowing 2 earned runs on 6 hits. Xavier Nady provided the offense for Chicago going 4 for 4 and belting a two run shot in the top of the third.

Brewers @ Marlins 4 - 6
Chris Coghlan led off with a homer, and he doubled and scored off Trevor Hoffman in a three-run Marlins seventh inning after Prince Fielder and Corey Hart went deep to tie it for the Brewers in the sixth. Hoffman struggles continues as his ERA has gone up to 11.65. Nolasco had a quality outing tossing 7 innings allowing 3 runs.

Phillies @ Braves 3 - 7
Red hot Troy Glaus launched a three-run homer and Tim Hudson allowed two runs in six innings as the Braves beat the Phils. Philadelphia starter Cole Hamels left the game in the first after a 64-minute rain delay. Howard hit his 9th homer of the season but couldn't help his team winning. Philadelphia is now 1.5 games back of the Braves and has lost 8 of their last 10.

Nationals @ Astros 7 - 8
Lance Berkman drove in five, capping the night with a walk-off two-run single in the ninth that delivered the win after the Nats had rallied in the top of the frame to go ahead. Brett Myers fanned 10 over seven innings allowing 4 runs but only one earned. Nats starter Stammen pitched 5 innings giving up 5 runs on 9 hits before giving the ball to the bullpen.

Reds @ Cardinals 9 - 8
The Reds took sole possession of first in the NL Central as Scott Rolen homered twice and Joey Votto went 4-for-5 with a homer and a triple. Colby Rasmus and Jon Jay each had three hits and two RBIs for St. Louis. Both starters were hit hard and couldn't go past the 5th inning. In the battle of the bullpens Cincinnati prevailed.

Mets @ Padres 4 - 2
After Monday's rout the Mets needed a big effort from their starter and Mike Pelfrey responded in a big way by dominating the Padres giving up just one run over 8 innings. Ike Davis and David Wright belted long home runs. Francisco Rodriguez earned his 10th save. LeBlanc pitched 5 and 1/3 giving up 7 hits and 4 walks but only 2 earned runs.

Diamondbacks @ Dodgers 0 - 1
Matt Kemp drilled a homer in the 10th inning to give the Dodgers their second consecutive walk-off win and end a scoreless duel after impressive starts by Dodgers rookie John Ely and D-backs ace Dan Haren. Haren tossed 8 shutout innings giving up 7 hits, no walks and 7 strikeouts. Ely pitched 7 scoreless allowing 2 hits and 2 walks.

Rockies @ Giants 2 - 1
After Barry Zito and Jason Hammel turned in stellar starts, allowing a single run each, the bullpens traded zeros until Clint Barmes belted an RBI double in the 11th inning to give Colorado a series victory. Santiago Casilla got the loss for the Giants while Rafael Betancourt the win for Colorado. Right fielder Andres Torres hit a solo shot in the bottom of the 4th to give San Francisco an early lead.
