Tonight National League predictions, written by Olivier:
*number 1 indicates road team win, number two home team win with respective pecentage to win the match. Pirates (Lincoln) @ Nationals (Lannan) 2 60%
Lincoln has pitched well in Triple-A Indianapolis this season. Through 11 starts with the Indians, Lincoln was 6-2 with a 3.16 ERA. John Lannan
will try to win Wednesday for the first time in nine home starts dating to Aug. 22. Lannan is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA in two starts against Pittsburgh (both at home) but held the Pirates to one run over seven innings in Washington's 2-1 loss on May 20, 2009.
Marlins (Johnson) @ Phillies (Halladay) 2 60%
Halladay threw the majors' 20th perfect game in a 1-0 win when his Phillies matched up against Johnson's Marlins 12 days ago. Halladay home ERA (2.56) is more than a run higher than his road mark (1.52). Johnson, on the other hand, has a 3.52 ERA in four road starts as opposed to a 1.50 mark in eight home outings. He's been virtually untouchable in his last five starts (four at home) going 3-1 with a 0.53 ERA. He's 3-0 with a 2.45 ERA in five career appearances in Philadelphia.
Giants (Sanchez) @ Reds (Harang) 2 55%
Sanchez hasn't drawn much attention, but he's just outside the NL's top 10 in ERA and strikeouts (68). He had gone winless in five straight starts before winning his last two outings. Sanchez has a 1.32 ERA while winning his two career starts against Cincinnati. Harang hasn't gotten much help from his teammates until recently. He was given 18 runs in his first 10 starts but also had a 5.98 ERA.The right-hander has received 21 runs in his last three games and has gone 2-0. He has a 2.45 ERA in his last two outings. Harang is 4-6 with a 3.62 ERA in 12 career starts against the Giants but was 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA in two matchups last season.
Padres (Latos) @ Mets (Santana) 2 65%
Santana has thrown 15 straight scoreless innings and has a 0.74 ERA over his last five starts. The left-hander is 2-2 with a 1.99 ERA in six starts versus San Diego. The Padres will give the ball to Latos who is coming off a subpar outing, allowing three runs and walking a season-high four in five innings. The right-hander went 4-0 with a 1.29 ERA over his previous five starts.
Cubs (Zambrano) @ Brewers (Wolf) 2 55%
Zambrano will attempt to win his fifth straight decision at Miller Park. Over the past three years, Zambrano has had few problems staying in control at Miller Park. He's 4-0 with a 1.96 ERA in his last five starts there. Zambrano, however, has a 7.20 ERA in his last two overall starts against the Brewers, both at Wrigley Field. Randy Wolf is 5-7 with a 4.22 ERA in 17 career starts versus Chicago but has gone 3-1 with a 2.10 ERA in his last four.
Astros (Paulino) @ Rockies (Cook) 2 60%
Paulino (1-7, 4.01 ERA) doesn't have the record of a pitcher who's steadily improving, but the hefty right-hander has done just that recently. Paulino has a 3.00 ERA in two home starts against Colorado (30-28), but he'll want to forget his lone previous outing at Coors Field. The Rockies shelled Paulino for eight runs over four innings. Cook's overall numbers aren't impressive, but his work at Coors Field has been. Cook is 2-0 with a 2.63 ERA in four home starts and 0-3 with a 6.81 ERA on the road. Cook is 4-1 with a 3.40 ERA in eight starts against Houston.
Braves (Kawakami) @ Diamondbacks (Kennedy) 1 55%
Kawakami (0-8, 4.91 ERA) can use all the help he can get from Atlanta's lineup as he makes his 12th start. The right-hander posted a 2.41 ERA over his previous three outings. One of his worst outings of the season, though, came against Arizona on May 14. Kawakami allowed four runs and needed 96 pitches to get through 4 1/3 innings. Ian Kennedy is making his sixth start at home, where he is 1-1 with a 2.91 ERA.
Cardinals (Wainwright) @ Dodgers (Kershaw) 1 55%
Wainwright is 2-0 with a 1.23 ERA in three starts against Los Angeles since the start of 2008, and the right-hander has gone 3-1 with a 1.20 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 30 innings over his last four overall outings. Cardinals have never beaten Kershaw, who's 1-0 with a 1.82 ERA in four starts against St. Louis. Kershaw (5-3, 3.06) is coming off his shakiest start in a month. He had been 4-1 with a 1.08 ERA in his final five May outings.
