Tonight National League predictions, written by Olivier:
*number 1 indicates road team win, number two home team win with respective pecentage to win the match. Giants (Weelemayer) @ Reds (Leake) 2 65%
Mike Leake hasn't allowed an earned run in his past two starts. No one
expected Leake to be the first pitcher from the 2009 draft to be confounding NL hitters, but that's exactly what he's done since becoming the first player in a decade to bypass the minors. San Francisco might need a lot of offensive support with Wellemayer on the hill. He is 0-4 with a 10.62 ERA in five road starts. Wellemeyer is 1-3 with a 5.00 ERA in five starts against Cincinnati.
Padres (Latos) @ Mets (Santana) 2 65%
Santana has thrown 15 straight scoreless innings and has a 0.74 ERA over his last five starts. The left-hander is 2-2 with a 1.99 ERA in six starts versus San Diego. The Padres will give the ball to Latos who is coming off a subpar outing, allowing three runs and walking a season-high four in five innings. The right-hander went 4-0 with a 1.29 ERA over his previous five starts.
Cubs (Dempster) @ Brewers (Bush) 1 60%
Dempster has certainly had success against the Brewers, going 13-2 with a 3.18 ERA in 19 starts. He has posted a 2.83 ERA while winning his last four starts against the Brewers. The Cubs have had their success against Milwaukee scheduled starter Dave Bush, who's 2-9 with a 5.60 ERA in 17 starts versus Chicago.
Astros (Oswalt) @ Rockies (Chacin) 1 55%
Oswalt is 7-2 in 11 outings against the Rockies with a 1.88 ERA (his lowest against any NL opponent) and 3-0 with a 2.17 ERA in four career starts at Coors Field. Colorado rookie Chacin (3-4, 3.77) will face the Astros for the first time. He went 2-0 with 17 1/3 scoreless innings in his first two starts this year before going 1-4 with a 5.86 ERA in the last five.
Braves (Hanson) @ Diamondbacks (Willis) 1 65%
Willis has plenty of experience against first-place Atlanta, but none since 2007. He's 6-5 with a 4.92 ERA in 18 career starts against the Braves. Tommy Hanson will be on the mound for Atlanta. The impressive young right-hander is 3-0 with a 2.41 ERA in his last three starts.
Pirates (Duke) @ Nationals (Hernandez) 2 65%
Duke (3-6, 5.43 ERA) has given up 13 runs and 22 hits over 11 1/3 innings in his past two starts. Duke is 1-1 with a 5.11 ERA in four starts against the Nationals. Washington counters with the closest thing it had to an ace prior to Strasburg's arrival. Livan Hernandez (4-3, 2.22), however, hasn't won in more than a month even though he's posted a respectable 3.44 ERA in those six starts. The right-hander is 2-0 with a 1.23 ERA in three starts versus the Central this season, and he went 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA in two starts against the Pirates in 2009.
Marlins (Johnson) @ Phillies (Halladay) 2 60%
Halladay threw the majors' 20th perfect game in a 1-0 win when his Phillies matched up against Johnson's Marlins 12 days ago. Halladay home ERA (2.56) is more than a run higher than his road mark (1.52). Johnson, on the other hand, has a 3.52 ERA in four road starts as opposed to a 1.50 mark in eight home outings. He's been virtually untouchable in his last five starts (four at home) going 3-1 with a 0.53 ERA. He's 3-0 with a 2.45 ERA in five career appearances in Philadelphia.
Padres (Garland) @ Mets (Niese) 2 55%
Jon Garland (6-3, 2.68) will pitch for San Diego. Garland lost for the first time in 10 starts Saturday. The right-hander was 6-0 with a 1.58 ERA since opening with consecutive defeats. He is 1-0 with a 2.57 ERA in three starts against the Mets. Niese pitched well in his return from the disabled list Saturday, allowing one run and six hits over seven innings to beat Florida 6-1 and earn his first career win in nine starts at Citi Field.
